ZIM LAUNCHES FIRST AI MEDLEY DANCEHALL VIDEO

ZIMBABWE’S music and visual arts landscape is set to witness a major milestone with the upcoming première of the country’s first AI-driven medley video, centred on the popular ‘Shot 25 Riddim’ compilation.

The project, which brings together ten dancehall artists, blends innovative Artificial Intelligence visuals with pulsating beats to offer a fresh, modern take on Zimbabwean dancehall culture.

The AI medley video, produced by renowned audio producer ‘Dankillah’ Danny Nyamushumba, in collaboration with AI videographer Tatenda Dembeza, aims to visually capture the core themes embedded in the Shot 25 Riddim: money, hustling, celebration, and dance.

In an interview, Dankillah said he saw it as opportunity to bring a new narrative to the country’s arts industry.

“The idea was to visually translate that energy into a single, cohesive medley that feels vibrant, modern, and entertaining.

“As the audio producer of the riddim, it felt natural for me to be involved beyond just the sound,” said Dankillah.

“The process was very interesting and refreshing. Instead of traditional camera shooting, the creativity lies in concept development, prompts, and visual experimentation.”

He believes AI opens doors for independent producers and artists who face budget constraints, noting, “AI can level the playing field by making high-quality content more accessible.”

The medley features a curated line-up of upcoming artists selected for their clean lyrics to ensure the video is suitable for national television and a wide audience.

Featured talents include Van Choga, Jahnoz Xtrabad, Mr Retreat, Jakajaka, Sound Killah, Abuja Lali G, Super TT, Jazzy Baba Nhari, Real Mapombi, and Ricky Dhadhi.

Super TT, expressed enthusiasm for the project’s forward-looking approach.

“Being part of the Shot 25 Riddim AI medley is exciting because it shows how dancehall can evolve and compete in the current trends.”

Abuja Lali G echoed this sentiment, reflecting on his experience with the AI process.

“Working on an AI-driven video was a new experience for me, and it’s great to see our music represented in a new and creative way,” said Abuja.

Mr Retreat added, “The AI visuals give the music a new dimension, and I’m proud to be part of something that’s pushing Zimbabwean dancehall forward.
