ZIMBABWE marked World Refrigeration Day yesterday with the Zimbabwe Refrigeration Aircoditioning Association highlighting the importance of the fight against climate change.
The ZRAA hosting their event, to commenorate the day, at Bulawayo Polytechnic.
ZRAA president Twine Phiri, known more as a leading football administrator in the country, addressed the gathering in the City of Kings yesterday.
“Our existence depends and begins here in the hands of refrigeration lecturers, our future depends on you and your unwavering support to grow our industry,” said Phiri.
“ZRAA is for the nation at large in support of our industry, government and global requirements and protocol.
“Our goal is to ensure support for the practitioners in all refrigeration technical support and upkeep requirements.
“The association is closely working with the Ministry of Environment, Water and Climate in certification programmes soon to be mandatory to all practitioners.
“The phase out and phase down of global depleting and warming products should be taken very seriously in the fight against climate change.”
Phiri added:
“We all should adopt the introduction of Hydro carbon refrigerants that has brought relief in the fight against global warming hence safe handling training is required across all practitioners.
“Incidents of technicians getting hurt and burnt has so far been recorded across the country due to ignorance on how to handle this HC refrigerant.
“We hereby call upon all practitioners to attend these trainings and save lives and our environment.
“ZRAA is here for us as practitioners to assist in all possible ways to make life easy for our industry. We call upon willing practitioners and associates to come and join ZRAA for the betterment of our industry and environment at large.”
