Zim Mining, Infrastructure indaba set for October

FINANCIAL and human resource capacity building towards enhancing infrastructure development will take centre stage at the 6th edition of the Zimbabwe Mining and Infrastructure Indaba next month. The event, which is being organised by Utho Capital, will be held from October 8 to 10 in Harare under the theme, “Mining: A Catalyst for Infrastructure Development in Africa”.

Utho Capital is a South African corporate and project finance advisory and consulting firm owned and managed by a team of professionals with over 70 years combined hands-on experience.

Utho chief executive officer Sheila Galloway said the meeting would bring together different local, regional and global experts in areas of finance, infrastructure development, mining and investments.

“Some of the speakers at the conference will include Minister of Mines and Mining Development Walter Chidhakwa, the Zimbabwe Chamber of Mines president Alex Mhembere, New Dawn Mining Company president and chief executive officer Ian Saunders, KPMG, Infrastructure and Major Projects Group South Africa partner Klaus Findt, among other notable speakers,” she said.

The three-day conference provides a platform for experts in mining, infrastructure and finance to discuss pertinent issues concerning the sectors and has proved to be one of the major sector specific conferences in the country, which draws a lot of potential regional and global investors, said Galloway.

In keeping with the theme, she said, there would be a workshop on private public partnerships (PPPs) that would cover guidelines and processes, undertaking a feasibility study, procurement and legal diligence considerations.

“Beneficiation is a top priority for Africa and the Zimbabwe Mining and Infrastructure Indaba 2014 will bring together renowned international experts in mining, beneficiation and infrastructure development highlighting best practices in beneficiation from around the world but more importantly illustrating how far Zimbabwe has come with beneficiation,” said Galloway.

Last year over 300 regional and international delegates attended the conference.
