Zim model becomes first black Miss London

A Zimbabwean, Vimbai Chapungu, has been crowned Miss London 2019, making her the first ever black person to hold the title and also a finalist for this year’s Miss England beauty pageant

According to Zimbabwean Mail, Chapungu wore her natural hair during the pageant and she emerged in the top three of the 55 contestants for the bare-faced model title.

Chapungu is a classically trained singer, a student and part-time model.

She is studying for a Masters’ degree in Geography at a London university.

Chapungu, 24, recently took part in the Miss England Final held in Newcastle where the contestants participated in Sports Round and Talent Round to an eco-wear Round and even a general knowledge quiz.

She qualified as one of the 50 finalists out of other 20,000 women that entered this year’s competition.

On her social media page, Chapungu said, “ I was given the opportunity to be able to represent the city that has helped me to be the person I am today. I am truly grateful to be Miss London 2019 and  I look forward to represent the capital city in the England finals. Once again thank you all for your support. I am overwhelmed by the kindness you have all,” she posted. —  punchnews
