Zim musicians to perform for charity

The cancer charity week show which will run from November 28 to  December 1 this year will be launched by Minister of Media, Information and Publicity, Cde Webster Shamu who is also the patron of Zimbabwe Union of Musicians.
According to one of the event organisers Matias Kush, the cancer charity week show will be aiming to raise US$6 000 for Karen Nyamayedenga of Norton who is in urgent need of cancer treatment in South Africa while the rest of the money raised will be used to help other children suffering from cancer in Zimbabwe.
“Our objective is to mobilise funds to help children suffering from cancer in Zimbabwe.
“So far we need to urgently mobilise funds to help Karen Nyamayedenga who stays in Norton who needs to be treated of cancer in South Africa,” said Kush.
Matias Kush who is the founder and president of Zimbabwe Musicians General Arts Trustee, which is organising the event said his organisation was happy to receive the support of First Class Bus Company which offered three tickets for going to South Africa and back for Karen and her parents.
He also expressed gratitude to Delta Corporation, which offered a public address system which will be used at the event.
“We are thankful to Delta Corporation which offered us a PA system which we will use at the cancer charity week show. First Class Bus Company also supported us in a huge way by pledging three tickets for Karen and her parents to travel to South Africa and back to Zimbabwe” said Kush.
Unicef brand ambassador Oliver Mtukudzi will also perform at the event together with other artistes who are members of The United Musicians of the Republic of Zimbabwe band (UMRZ).
Other members of the band includes Sulumani Chimbetu who will be representing Green Card Medical Aid Society, Leornard Zhakata, Shamiso, Blessing Shumba and Mechanic Manyeruke, Kue G ‘Lil Saint’, The Kush, Bernaddette and Hudson Nguri .
Miss Zimbabwe 2011 second runner-up Ruvimbo Katiyo will also attend the show representing Plan International while former Zimbabwe warriors captain Peter Ndlovu will be a guest speaker at the cancer charity week show.
Kush who is also a gospel musician said music fans should expect a live recording of a DVD collaboration album titled “Wedenga Munengoni” which will feature artistes from the UMRZ band.
“This DVD album is our prayer to God for his divine intervention. We are asking God to help us achieve our aim of raising funds for Karen to be treated of cancer in South Africa and also praying for her speedy recovery” said Kush.
Kush added that other musicians and groups wishing to take part are free to register with his organisation.
“This is not a show for Kush and his team. It’s a charity show for every musician out there who realises the need to help this child (Karen) and other children suffering from cancer in Zimbabwe.
“We want choirs from different churches, organisations and schools to join with us so that we can have a choral competition during the show. Those groups wishing to participate should contact me at 0733 229 310. Registration fee is US$100 per school and US$50 per individual group” said Kush.
He added that seven winning choirs from the choral competition will be chosen to tour and perform their music at SOS children’s homes in Zimbabwe, South Africa, Kenya, Namibia and Zambia where orphans are institutionalised.
Gate charges will be US$2 for adults and school children while kids will pay US$1. On the last day of the show, gate charges will be raised to US$10 for adults and US$2 for kids.
