Zim-Netherlands relations deepen

CORDIAL relations between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands have seen the European nation providing support in education, water management and governance, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade Ms Sheillah Chikomo said at celebrations to mark the Dutch National Day on Wednesday.

“On behalf of the Government of Zimbabwe, we would like to extend warm congratulations to the people of Netherlands as they mark the birthday of His Majesty King William Alexander.

“This day serves as a moment of reflection on the history, achievements and values of the Netherlands and provides us with an opportunity to renew and deepen the bonds of friendship and cooperation that exist between our two nations.

“The relationship between Zimbabwe and the Netherlands is one of mutual respect, understanding and shared goals.

“For many years, our countries have enjoyed strong diplomatic ties, characterised by open dialogue and meaningful collaborations.

“Today, we celebrate not only the ties of friendship that bind us, but also the shared values of democracy, peace and human dignity that underpin our relationship,” she said.

The deputy minister said the Netherlands have been an important partner to Zimbabwe.

“As we mark this special occasion, we reflect on the progress that have made our bilateral relations.

“The Netherlands have been an important partner in Zimbabwe’s diplomatic and development journey, particularly through collaborations in sectors such as agriculture, water management, education and governance.

“Through these collaborative efforts, ladies and gentlemen, the Netherlands has contributed significantly to improving the lives of many Zimbabweans and we are grateful for the sustained support from your government and people,” she said.

The Netherlands’ ambassador to Zimbabwe Margret Verwik said there were 26 Dutch companies already invested in Zimbabwe, especially in the agriculture sector.

“It is also important for us that we increase our efforts to Zimbabwe. Already, several Zimbabwean companies are seeing efficiencies in the dairy and poultry sectors with top-tier milking machinery and hatchery equipment, improving processes and products.

“Now, this has been made possible in part by the Dutch Good Growth Fund that has backed US$10 million of investments through 14 credits guarantees to enable procurement by Zimbabwean companies,” she said.
