ZIM PAIR AT NOTTS

LUTON Town are not the only English football club with a pair of Zimbabweans in their fold.

The Championship side, who have a chance to play in the Premiership next season, have Marvelous Nakamba and Admiral Muskwe on their books.

Nakamba is on loan from Premiership side Aston Villa.

The Warriors midfielder has already impressed at Luton Town who are considering making his move a permanent one.

Muskwe has barely featured for the club but could be a factor in the countdown to the end of the campaign when the squad becomes stretched.

There is also a Zimbabwean pair at Notts County, the oldest football club in the world.

Founded on November 25, 1862, Notts County were established before even the Football Association, the governing body of the game in England, had been formed.

The Nottingham-based club play in the National League, the fifth tier of the English foot ball league system.

Adam Chicksen, who has played for the Warriors, is a key member of the Notts County playing squad.

He is another fellow Zimbabwean on the club’s books, Luther Munakandafa, who signed his first professional contract last year.

Muakandafa has now been shifted base, as part of his development plan.

“Luther Munakandafa has been recalled from his loan at Boston to enable him to join Gainsborough Trinity for the remainder of the season,” the club said in a statement.

“Munakandafa, who signed a professional contract in the summer, has been gaining his first taste of men’s football this season and has made 30 appearances so far in spells with the Pilgrims and Basford United.

“We’d like to thank Boston for their cooperation and wish Luther the best of luck at Gainsborough.”

The 19-year-old forward is highly-rated.

“As evidenced by our determination to continue the operation of our academy despite the loss of grant funding last summer, we, like our supporters, are very keen to see the club continue to develop players through the age groups and into the first team,” the club said when they offered him a contract.

“Luther has demonstrated exceptional talent and application in his time at the club so far and sets the benchmark for other young players at the club.

“We congratulate him on this achievement and look forward to watching him progress further in 2022-23.”
