Local companies explored business opportunities at the just-ended horticultural show, The Fruit Logistica, held in Germany from February, 8-10.

The Fruit Logistica is one of the biggest horticultural shows in Europe where ideas on horticultural products and various farming equipment are exchanged.

Fair Mark, Procitrun, and Total Farm Solutions, a leading greenhouse manufacturing company, were among companies which participated at the show.

Tapiwa Mugabe, director of Total Farm Solutions, said they were grateful to Zimtrade for affording the opportunity to let the world know what they are doing as farmers in Zimbabwe.

“We can assure the country that we are going to transform the horticultural space following the connections, markets and suppliers secured at the show.”

Mugabe urged aspiring farmers to form synergies in production and marketing spheres.

“The farmers who will survive in the future are farmers whose synergies for production and marketing strategies are meant to reduce production costs and increase returns.

“There are huge business opportunities because at the show we realised that European buyers are looking for food. The Covid-19 pandemic and the war in Ukraine seem to have made a huge dent on the global food system and this must have affected most European countries.

“The price of food in Europe is an indicator of the high demand. We should see our export receipts of horticultural commodities going up in the next few years, thus earning foreign currency for the nation.

“Zimbabwe is positioned for growth if it continues to engage various markets as facilitated by Zimtrade,” said Mugabe.

There were more than 3 000 enterprises and 75 000 trade visitors at the event, presenting a special chance for Zimbabwean farmers to network with international distributors and buyers.
