Zim prepared for Youth Games

REFURBISHMENT of venues to be used for the sixth edition of the African Union Sports Council Region V Under-20 Youth Games are at an advanced stage with the Zimbabwe Government anticipating to hand over the venues next month.
Addressing diplomats from participating countries on the state of Zimbabwe’s preparedness in the capital on Tuesday, Sport, Arts and Culture Minister Andrew Langa said the Government was committed to the successful hosting of the Games.

“Your excellencies, I am pleased to advise you that the Government of Zimbabwe is committed to the successful hosting of the Games,” Langa said.

“The government has committed itself to the refurbishment of sport infrastructures, accommodation and the general preparations for the Games.

“The refurbishment of the venues is progressing well with the Government anticipating handing over the venues to the Regional Organising committee on September 30.

“A working party of permanent secretaries of 12 ministers, led by the deputy chief secretary in the Office of the President and Cabinet, also closely monitors the progress of the Games at national level.” A total of 1762 participants, including athletes, coaches and officials, are expected here for the Games. Fifteen countries will converge in the country and they include the DRC, Tanzania, Madagascar, Mauritius, Seychelles, Angola, Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, South Africa, Swaziland and Zambia.
