Zim qualify for World Gymnastics Games

South Africa.
The World Gymnastics Games have been scheduled for July 7 to 14 next year in Cape Town, South Africa.

Tichaona Gwenzi raised Zimbabwe’s flag high when he was crowned the Southern African region Tumbling champion.

Gwenzi took first place after defeating Srancis Jaer while Kudzaishe Nyazvingo settled for bronze.
In Rhythmic, the Zimbabwe duo of Georgia Samson and Albertina Mashoko settled for bronze medals.
Sean Rodgers won the team’s only apparatus gold on pommel in men’s artistic while the seniors won a team silver and the juniors took a bronze.

Zimbabwe’s Aerobics team walked away with a bronze while Avril Davies took silver.
Chris Muchatuta, the vice-president of the Zimbabwe Gymnastics Association, said their trip to the competition was very productive.

“This year’s trip was meaningful and was made easier with the assistance of Pioneer Coaches and the immigration department.

“We would like to thank all the people that gave us support, we settled down straight in South Africa and that helped in us getting excellent results and medals which were brought by the young participants.

“We are very happy and, as the association, we are very proud of Gwenzi from Budiriro for raising the nation’s flag high.

“It was not easy for him to defeat all the opposition and being crowned as the 2012 Southern African thumbling  champion,” said Muchatuta.
