ZIMBABWE has recorded 12 new confirmed cholera cases and 16 suspected cases.
In a statement, the Ministry of Health and Child Care said the suspected cases were reported in Beitbridge (6), Mutare Rural (4), Mutasa (3), Mutare City (1) and Chiredzi (2).
“As on April 3, 17 cases were hospitalised.
“These are admitted to Beitbridge District Hospital (11), Chimanimani District (2), Mutasa (2), Mutare District (1) in Manicaland Province, and Bikita District (1) in Masvingo.”
Among the 215 rapid diagnostic tests (RDT) done, 65 were positive (30.2 percent positivity).
“The National Recovery Rate is at 88 percent with 11 new recoveries.
“As of today (yesterday), Zimbabwe had recorded 341 suspected cholera cases, 66 confirmed cases, 317 recoveries, two confirmed deaths and five suspected deaths.”
The 17 cholera hotspot districts in the country are Buhera, Chegutu, Chikomba, Chimanimani,
Chipinge, Chitungwiza, Chiredzi, Harare, Gokwe North, Marondera, Mazowe, Shamva, Mutare,
Murehwa, Mwenezi, Seke and Wedza.
The first cholera outbreak in the country this year was on February 12 in Chegutu.
To date, cases have been reported in eight provinces, but they have no epidemiological link to each other.
