Zim safe for investment: Charumbira

Zimbabwe is a safe and profitable investment destination that is likely to increase both economic output and capacity utilisation in industry if foreign direct investment (FDI) inflows improve, Acting Harare Mayor Councillor Panganayi Charumbira has said.

Addressing more than 40 delegates and members of the Junior Chamber International (JCI) who converged for the National Presidents Meeting in Harare last week, Clr Charumbira applauded JCI Zimbabwe for hosting international guest at a time when Zimbabwe was undergoing a positive transition.

JCI is an international non-governmental organisation of young people between the ages of 18 and 40 that seeks to increase their contribution to communities.

“This meeting of international delegates would not have come at a better time than now when Zimbabwe is going through a transformational process, and for those of you who follow the Zimbabwean narrative, you are aware that we have a new President and a new Government whose thrust is focusing on re-engagement and ensuring that Zimbabwe is part of the global community,” said Clr Charumbira.

Zimbabwe, he said, has various investment opportunities and has just launched the National Investment Policy, which is a simplified guideline to local investment. He urged delegates to share the good news with their counterparts.

“Your meeting is being held at an opportune time, a time when the country has launched the National Investment Policy statement, which provides guidelines for investment in the various sectors ranging from agriculture, mining to manufacturing,” he said.

“It is gratifying that the agenda of the meeting covers a wide range of very interesting items relating to making a difference and contributing to sustainable development in the world, so in your meeting remember Zimbabwe is a safe and profitable investment destination.” Clr Charumbira told the delegates that Zimbabwe is full of opportunities which have gone untapped because of the country’s perceived pariah image.

“Zimbabwe is emerging from almost two decades of global isolation and as a result, a lot of investment opportunities have gone untapped and unnoticed so be the good ambassadors and tell the world the good investment opportunities available in Zimbabwe,” he added.
