ZIMBABWE was named the overall best team in public speaking at the Pan African Junior Schools Competitions held in Kenya from Sunday to Tuesday.

Mother Patrick Convent Primary School and Amai Mugabe Junior School competed against East African Junior Schools in the High Schools Debate Challenge.

Uganda won the first prize in debate and will host the competition next year.

A member of the Zimbabwe schools’ team, Takudzwa Musengeyi, said the experience was great.

“It was thrilling and exciting. We did not know what to expect from the other countries. We were also not sure if we would match them with their standard language and accent.

“The experience was also informative as we got perspectives and ideas from others around Africa.

“We got good exposure,” said Takudzwa.

The next stage for the Zimbabwe team is being part of the Junior Parliament, advocating for children’s rights.
