ZIMBABWE and four Sadc countries will battle it out in Mozambique, Maputo, for a ticket to fly to Japan for the beach volleyball Tokyo 2020 qualifiers.

The six-day tournament, which begins today and will end on the 15th of January, will see teams from Zimbabwe, Zambia, Botswana, South Africa and the hosts Mozambique, fighting for top honours.

Zimbabwe Beach Volleyball coach Kudzai Sibangani said: “This is an Olympic qualifier zonal phase 3 and our zone is a powerhouse in terms of beach volleyball with the likes of Mozambique and South Africa.

“In this stage the top three will qualify to the next round. We are going to compete and make a name for ourselves and the country. We have the ammunition and we are targeting a top two finish. All we needed was a stage to showcase what we have,” said Sibangani.

Zimbabwe qualified for the Mozambique tournament after excelling at the CAVB Continental Cup Qualifiers sub zonal competitions that were held in Samfya, Zambia.
