A 27-year-old man from Ngoma Village under Chief Mposi in Mberengwa committed suicide after he “impregnated” his teenage girlfriend.
The man, Simbarashe Mwaneyi, was found hanging on a tree last week on Wednesday morning by his neighbours.
A neighbour who spoke on condition of anonymity said Mwaneyi had been stressed for the past two months with rumours that he has got his 15-year-old girlfriend pregnant.
Sources close to Mwaneyi said he was stressed for the past two months with rumours saying that he had impregnated a juvenile.
“The deceased impregnated his girlfriend and he wasn’t prepared to take responsibility. He tried convincing the girl to abort as he was scared that he might end up in prison since the girlfriend was a minor. He was always stressed,” said the source.
“Due to stress, he was always drunk as he tried to escape from reality. Two weeks before his death he had also stopped going to work. I tried talking to him but he never opened.”
“He could only say that you will miss me because I will be going away where you will not see me again. So we thought he was planning to run away to a neighbouring country or to another village,” added the source.
Zimbabwe Republic Police Midlands Spokesperson Inspector Joel Goko could not be reached for a comment.
