The Expo 2020 Dubai is a platform for Zimbabwe to shine, market itself, including its cultural values, the country’s Commissioner-General for Expo 2020 Dubai, Ambassador Mary Mubi has said.
Various sectors including upcoming and established brands have already committed to participate at the global event.
Ambassador Mubi has laid out Zimbabwe’s expected roadmap at the expo, which will run for six months from October 20 next year to April 1, 2021 under the theme: “Connecting minds, Creating the future.”
Through the expo, Zimbabwe will also get an opportunity to sell the reforms being undertaken by Government aimed at repositioning Harare as an investment magnet in the world.
Speaking during an interactive session with stakeholders in the fashion industry last week, Ambassador Mubi said the country had great potential in the fashion industry.
“As the fashion industry you should utilise the expo, it is time as a nation to market our local story.
“So that we tell the total story of Zimbabwe not only talk about minerals, but our culture as well,” she said.
Ambassador Mubi said two sectors including Zimtrade have made a committment to be at the expo in the month of February 2020.
Players in the tourism and arts sectors have pledged to participate at the expo.
National Arts Council programmes officer Ms Caroline Makoni said the expo provided an opportunity for locals to market their brands as millions of people will visit the event.
“The expo will also provide an opportunity for the exchange of ideas. We also want our own brands to thrive,” she said.
Zimbabwe is an official participant in the expo under the “assisted programme” developed by the United Arab Emirates (UAE) to support eligible developing nations, lower and middle-income countries.
Zimbabwe’s architect and design, together with private sector involvement, is set to boost the number of visitors who will be frequenting the Zimbabwean pavilion during the exhibition.
The Office of the President and Cabinet is spearheading the Dubai 2020 Expo, with emphasis being on how different sectors should prepare adequately for the event.
