There have been more deaths this festive season as 81 people have been killed so far in road accidents countrywide compared to 75 who died during the same period last year.
Police attribute the accidents to speeding, overtaking errors, misjudgement by drivers and failure to give way.
There is also an increase in young, unlicensed and reckless drivers on the roads.
These statistics signify an 8 percent surge in deaths in the comparable period.
Police spokesperson chief superintendent Paul Nyathi said the 81 people died in 1 012 traffic accidents recorded countrywide as of Saturday.
This is an increase from 822 accidents that were recorded the same period last year, signifying a 23 percent increase.
So far 589 people have been injured in accidents compared to 430 last year, while 2 289 vehicles have been impounded for defects and being unroadworthy.
Police have also issued 96 634 tickets for various traffic offences, but declined to disclose the amount collected.
Chief Supt Nyathi urged motorists to continue exercising caution on the roads.
