FORMER Black Rhinos coach Nesbert Saruchera will return to the dugout on Tuesday when he leads the Zimbabwe Defence Forces Select team against their counterparts from Tanzania in this year’s Defence Forces Trophy at the National Sports Stadium on Tuesday. The local team will feature players from Premiership sides Buffaloes and Black Rhinos as well as the Air Force lower division side Chapungu.
Saruchera was relieved of duties from Chipembere in the first half of the season, but remains the head of the technical department of all the army teams.
And, by virtue of that position, he will guide the local team against East Africans.
A fortnight ago, the defence forces selected a squad that is set to go into camp tomorrow to prepare for the match.
“We really selected a good squad, a number of players such as Hope Bere from Buffaloes and Walter Masenda from Black Rhinos. The team will go into camp tomorrow and begin training for this match.
“We always pride ourselves with good football players as the army teams and we would want to display that again by playing good football and winning the trophy,” said Saruchera.
The team from Tanzania is expected to arrive on Saturday.
Last year, Zimbabwe Select won the Trophy when they beat Zambia 3-0 at the National Sports Stadium.
Yesterday, the team received a timely boost from Hexagon Sports Company which donated 20 balls and training bibs.
Group Captain Pirate Nleya hailed the support they were receiving.
“We feel highly honoured and this donation will help us to prepare,” he said. Hexagon Sports Management managing director, Charles Chirapura, who handed over the balls, said they hope to foster good relations with the defence forces.
