TANAKA Chinyahara’s name is not familiar with many local football fans, but the 19-year-old is set to move from virtual obscurity to a higher level when he leaves for Denmark this week to start a new career with topflight side Hobro IK.
The teenager recently won a potentially life-changing one-year deal with the European side after impressing scouts during a youth tournament in South Africa last year.
The young midfielder was playing at South Africa’s Bidvest Wits when he was spotted by scouts last year in December during the annual Discovery Challenge tournament. He was offered a development contract to try and cut the grade and if he impresses, he will be given a full contract within a year.
The midfielder managed to secure his work permit on Thursday.
Chinyahara told The Saturday Herald that his move was a dream come true.
“I am very happy to make this breakthrough. I think it’s a big chance for me because I have always dreamt of playing in Europe some day.
“So, I want to do well at Hobro, that’s my immediate goal, d I don’t aim to end there. I have huge dreams. Liverpool has always been my dream destination.
“I think everything is possible since age is still on my side,” he said.
Chinyahara relocated to South Africa at 14 years and was signed by Kaizer Chiefs’ development squad upon arrival during the 2009-10 season.
But he had had a brief stint with Caps United juniors under Raymond Mundembe. Chinyahara is comfortable playing both as a defensive or attacking midfielder.
