Zim to host 9th Routes Africa forum

based in Manchester, Britain, and it holds such forums in all the continents and the world.

Routes vice-president and commercial manager Mr Nigel Mayes made the announcement at the close of the 8th Routes Africa at the lakeside resort of Munyonyo here. “Routes Africa 2014 will be hosted in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe, by the Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe,” said Mr Mayes before the Zimbabwean delegation erupted into song and dance.

In an interview after the announcement, Mr Mayes said about four countries had submitted their bids to play host to the event but were pipped by Zimbabwe because of its commitment. “The reason why Routes chose Zimbabwe is because it is a fantastic destination. It has one of the Seven Wonders of the World which I am sure a lot of delegates would want to visit,” said Mr Mayes.

“The other reason is because of the team’s approach. They had strong commitment from Civil Aviation Authority of Zimbabwe, tourism authorities and the ministries. Having those three partners coming together and present their proposal gave absolute confidence that they will deliver a great event in 2014.”

In his acceptance speech, head of delegation, Transport, Communication and Infrastructure Development permanent secretary, Mr Munesu Munodawafa said the country was ready to stage the event.

“The place we will be hosting Routes Africa 2014 is, for lack of a better word, the mighty Victoria Falls, one of the Seven Wonders of the World,” he said.
Mr Munodawafa said there were a number of tourist attractions in Victoria Falls, besides the Falls among them, the Big Five. He said Zimbabwe was expanding.

Meanwhile, Suluman Chimbetu dished out a spirited performance at the close of the forum. Other delegates from Zimbabwe were Zimbabwe Tourism Authority, Air Zimbabwe, National Handling Services and the Ministry of Tourism and Hospitality Industry.
