ZIMBABWE is set to host the Africa Green, Waste and Energy Expo and Summit from July 26-28. Players from across Africa and the global community will exchange ideas and build partnerships to stimulate investments.
Under the theme ‘Just Transition- Remodelling Systems’, the event presents the opportunity for Zimbabwe to showcase progress made in meeting its aspirations enshrined in the Nationally Determined Contributions.
Ministry of Environment, Climate, Tourism and Hospitality Industry permanent secretary, Raphael Faranisi, called for tangible resolutions.
The Government recently launched its carbon trading framework, whose carefully structured revenue sharing model will benefit local actors and the country as a whole.
The summit is timely because it addresses unsustainable production and consumption patterns, placing a huge demand on the country to transition from a linear to a circular economic model.
Faranisi urged journalists to disseminate information that promotes climate action.
“This has a ripple effect on our nation in showcasing Zimbabwe as a tourist and business destination of choice and demonstrates that, indeed Zimbabwe is open for business,” he said.
“The expo is coming at an opportune time as the Government recently launched its long-awaited carbon trading framework.
“More importantly, it will also benefit local actors and the country at large through its carefully structured revenue sharing model.
“In addressing existential issues we are facing today caused by unsustainable production and consumption patterns, a huge demand is placed on us to transition from a linear to circular economic model,” he said.
