THE Zimbabwe cricket Under-19s have shown they are ready to compete against some of the best teams ahead of the 2026 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

This is after their six-wicket win over Ireland Under-19 at Takashinga Cricket Club gave them a 4-0 lead in the five-match series.

Leeroy Chiwaula was named Player of the Match for his 77 from 99 balls.

Michael Blignaut’s 60 from 58 balls (not out) was also equally impressive.

Zimbabwe had restricted Ireland to 241 for 6 in their 50 overs.

That the hosts made a successful chase and achieved it with 25 balls remaining, could be indication this is a group that could just make a big impression.

Going into the series, coach Elton Chigumbura had highlighted the importance of creating good combinations.

Ireland on the other hand said the series gives them a feel of the World Cup.

The 16th edition of 2026 ICC Under-19 Men’s Cricket World Cup will be held in Zimbabwe and Namibia early next year.
