ZIMBABWE managed to add some more gold medals at the 2026 Confederation of Universities and Colleges Sports Association (CUCSA) Games in Gaborone, Botswana, over the weekend.
Both the Zimbabwe men’s and women’s volleyball teams secured gold medals to add to codes like football and table tennis, among others.
Team Zimbabwe managed to do well at the games, where they were second to sports powerhouse South Africa in overall medal haul.
University of Zimbabwe Wolves coach Gift Chirebvu was happy with the win and said they did well because of team effort.
“We are happy that we managed to win, although the teams were reduced to three, with us, the host Botswana, and Zambia.
“Uganda failed to send teams despite their early confirmation,” said Chirebvu.
Team Zimbabwe, which returned home on Sunday, had an opportunity to meet Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to Botswana, Henry Mukonoweshuro, who gave them morale support before and during their stay. The Ambassador welcomed the athletes and officials to the Zimbabwean Embassy in Gaborone, describing Botswana as their “home away from home” and assuring them of his support throughout the competition.
“Welcome to your home away from home. We are happy to welcome you to Botswana, and we hope you will have a nice stay. We will continue to support you and attend your games on Friday and Saturday,” he said.
