ZIFA has withdrawn the Young Warriors from the 2017 Orange Under-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers citing lack of funds.
Zimbabwe was supposed to meet the Comoros Islands in a first round, first leg away tie during the weekend of 24-26 June.
But due to financial constraints the Young Warriors coached by Gutu FC mentor Tafadzwa Mashiri failed to make the trip.
a�?The Under-17 national team has been withdrawn from the 2017 Orange U-17 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers due to budgetary constraints. Going forward Zifa will assess the costs and benefits of participating in future international tournaments but it is imperative to stress that we need to avoid partaking in competitions when there is no adequate funding,a�? said Zifa president Philip Chiyangwa.
The Confederation of African Football (Caf) website lists Zimbabwe as the fifth country to have pulled out of the qualifiers after Liberia, Democratic Republic of Congo, Malawi and Lesotho.
Despite failing to send a team to the Comoros Islands, Zifa has reiterated that the other national teams will participate in all international competitions they qualified for.
The mena��s senior team, the Warriors, is set to take part in the Gabon 2017 Orange Africa Cup of Nations finals while the Mighty Warriors a�� will participate in the historic Rio 2016 Olympics and the 2016 Africa Women Cup of Nations finals in Cameroon.
The Mighty Warriors are in camp preparing for the Olympic Games.
