Mystery surrounds Miss Zim preps

Zimbabwe is at risk of failing to field a contestant at this yearas Miss World with the Miss Zimbabwe Trust going mum on preparations for the pageant which is supposed to take place on or before 29 July if the country is to avoid elimination.

This yearas pageant, which was supposed to take place in March as has always traditionally been the case, faced various delays due to various reasons in the past few months.

However, with three weeks to go before the pageant, organisers have not even announced the date for the mandatory boot camp for models which usually lasts a few weeks and contributes significantly to modelsa final marks.

Various reasons for the failure to hold the pageant have been given by the Miss Zimbabwe Trust.

The pageant was first pushed back from March after it emerged that it wanted to rope in students.

Prior to that, Miss Zim had recorded a low turnout as many prospective models shunned it in light of the requirement that they swear on the Bible that they did not have nude pictures lying around somewhere.

In May, the pageant organisers alleged that there was a third force that was taking nude pictures of prospective candidates in order to derail their efforts to hold a successful pageant, hence necessitating further delays to the holding of the event.

Nude pictures have over the past few years become the bane of the local pageant with winners stripped of their title because of the leakage of such pictures in the aftermath of the pageant.

Three weeks ago when B-Metro contacted the pageantas communications manager Tendai Chirau, he said a decision was going to be made that week on a final date for the pageant.

a?We are sitting down this week and thatas hopefully when a date will be announced. As of now there is nothing to announce but all details will be given to the media when all the stakeholders have had a sit down on Friday,a? he said at the time.

However, this week Chirau was evasive when questioned about a possible date for the countryas biggest modelling contest.

When B-Metro called him he said that he was driving and would call back to answer questions when he had reached his destination. When this did not happen, he ignored calls and later on switched off his mobile.

He also did not respond to text messages and WhatsApp messages.
