“We are confident that the event will also serve to market Zimbabwe as the destination of choice for the participants during and after the event. Many of them will be coming to Zimbabwe for the very first time.
“They will be witnesses to the new developments in the country. The situation in Zimbabwe has significantly improved ever since the country’s political protagonists signed a Global Political Agreement in September of 2008.
“The economy has also improved in the last two years. This has served to remove distortions that had characterised the economy in the last decade,” he said.
This year’s summit will see participants coming from across the African continent as well as from countries such as Sweden, Norway, England, USA, Germany and India.
Zimbabwe YMCA’s bid to host the Africa YMCA Youth Summit emerged the winner from 14 African countries’ bids.
The event is held annually and in the last two years has been held in Ethiopia and Kenya respectively. Zimbabwe YMCA was registered as a welfare organisation in 1969 and is affiliated to the Africa Alliance of YMCAs and the World Alliance of YMCAs.
