The Zimazing Race, a beloved adventure of fitness and teamwork, is gearing up for a thrilling revamp in its third installment, scheduled for November 9 at Southern Cross Estate in Bulawayo.
The event aims to create a festive atmosphere for attendees, encouraging community engagement and support for local businesses.
Organisers revealed to Chronicle Showbiz that this year’s edition aims to attract more participants than ever before, with a cash prize of US$2 000 up for grabs and an exciting after-party also planned.
Mandipa Mashingaidze, the visionary behind the race, announced that this year’s challenges would feature a host of new activities and props designed to take racers to new heights of excitement and adventure.
“We’ll be doing things differently this time, with a greater focus on the after-event, prize-giving, and post-race entertainment. We’re also opening up to stallholders with interesting products and services,” she said.
The race will feature 10 diverse challenges for teams of four, pushing participants to their physical and mental limits.
In a significant expansion, the event will debut its inaugural Harare edition, broadening its reach and celebrating more of Zimbabwe’s vibrant culture.
“The goal has always been to celebrate Zimbabwe and her people. By adding Harare, we’re encouraging more Zimbabweans to appreciate and celebrate their surrounding,” Mashingaidze explained.
Last year’s race saw teams tackle tasks such as unlocking secret codes, selling goods for local vendors, and even recording videos promoting cleanliness around the city.
For Mashingaidze, “The most rewarding thing has been knowing that people leave this event with unforgettable memories and a great experience. Not to mention those who visit pit stops.
“It brings joy to everyone. Planning this as a one-person team can be stressful, but seeing it all come together and hearing teams still talk about it months later makes it all worth it.”
Last year’s event, held at Woodville in Bulawayo, attracted 25 teams, marking an increase from its inaugural edition. Participants praised
the race for its unique blend of fun and meaningful experiences.
“We learned life lessons more than anything,” remarked Iphokuhle Sigola from Team Fazak, which secured a podium finish last year.
“It was about teamwork and understanding the struggles of local vendors.” – Follow on X @MbuleloMpofu
