Zimbabwe and China celebrate 45 years of diplomatic relations with strengthened economic ties

The relationship between China and Zimbabwe has endured the test of time, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri has said.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri was at the 76th anniversary of Chinese Independence and the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Zimbabwe.

“It is a great honour to join you on this momentous occasion at a time when the two countries have elevated their bilateral relations.

“Over the years, the level of economic cooperation between the two countries has reached greater heights in various sectors. We have also seen a surge of Chinese investment in sectors such as manufacturing, ICT, education, energy, and others,” she said.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri hailed the establishment of Dinson Iron and Steel Company in Manhize by Chinese investors as one of the biggest investments in Zimbabwe saying the company is earmarked to be among the biggest iron and steel companies in Africa.

Under the leadership of President Mnangagwa, cooperation between Zimbabwe and China has witnessed a number of projects being implemented.

She noted that the rehabilitation of Robert Gabriel Mugabe International Airport was meant to improve people-to-people connectivity.

Zimbabwe has also started exporting avocados and blueberries to China, and modalities are underway for Zimbabwe to begin exporting macadamia nuts to China.

Minister Muchinguri-Kashiri commended China for calling for the unconditional removal of sanctions imposed on Zimbabwe.
