THE Zimbabwe pair of Mike Eaton and Roy Garden are confident that they will put up a good show on the greens at Africa States Bowls competition which gets underway here on Monday. The Africa States are scheduled to take place at Eros Bowling Club and the pair, who will represent the country at the competition, say they are confident of a good show.
They say their confidence stems from the fact that they came back home with a number of medals after their good performance at the same championships last year.
The hosts have been busy with their preparations.
They really want to dominate this competition after they also impressed at last year’s competition in Durban.
The Zimbabwe team will be under the guidance of their president Malcolm Evans and Trish Davies.
Both Eaton and Garden are among Zimbabwe’s clubs top bowlers and are looking forward to the competition.
“We had quite a good busy schedule so I believe we have a chance of winning, the preparations went well and we had play a number of local tournaments and friendly matches so that we could try and improve.
“There is a lot of talent with both men and women team, I am playing in the pairs with Garden who is also equally good,” said Eaton.
While Garden and Eaton will be busy playing Pairs, the Fours team will feature Tom Craven, Clive Robertson Pierre De Villiers and Eaton while the Trips will have Craven, Robertson and De Valliers.
Garden will also play in the men’s Singles section.
In the Women section Zimbabwe’s skip Kerry Craven will be the one to watch.
Meanwhile, both the Zambian teams and Zimbabwean teams arrived in Namibia yesterday.
The teams will have some friendly matches tomorrow before the tournament gets underway on Monday.
Bowls Namibia president Edwald Vermeuln said all was set for the Africa States and they were happy to host the event.
