ZIMBABWE senior national women’s national cricket team captain Mary-Anne Musonda has been nominated for the ICC Player of the Month for October.

Musonda, who made history when she became the first women to score a century for Zimbabwe during the Lady Chevrons’ maiden series against Ireland, will battle for the honours against the Irish duo of Laura Delany and Gaby Lewis.

The trio were outstanding in the recent One Day International series, which was Zimbabwe’s first official series after they were granted the ODI status by ICC earlier this year.

The men’s shortlist is made up of Shakib Al Hasan (Bangladesh), Asif Ali (Pakistan) and David Wiese (Namibia). Winners are announced every second Monday of the month on the ICC’s digital channels.

The three nominees for either category is shortlisted based on performances from the first to the last day of each calendar month. The shortlist is then voted on by the independent ICC Voting Academy* and fans around the world.

The ICC Voting Academy comprises prominent members of the cricket fraternity including well-known journalists, former players, broadcasters, and members of the ICC Hall of Fame.

The Voting Academy submit their votes by email and hold a 90 per cent share of the vote. Fans registered with the ICC vote via the ICC website, accounting for the remaining 10 per cent.
