FOREIGN Affairs and International Trade Minister Professor Amon Murwira, has met the Chairman of China’s International Co-operation Department, Mr Chen Xiaodong, to discuss various issues on economic co-operation on the sidelines of the ongoing Forum on China-Africa Co-operation (Focac) in Changsha, China.
In a statement yesterday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade said the meeting, held on Tuesday, focused on areas such as trade, industrial value chains, among others.
“Professor Amon Murwira paid a courtesy call on the Chairman of China’s International Cooperation Department, Mr Chen Xiaodong, today (Tuesday) in Changsha, China, on the sidelines of the FOCAC Ministerial Co-ordinating Meeting.
“The discussions centred on areas of co-operation between Zimbabwe and China in areas such as trade, industrial chain co-operation, connectivity, and development co-operation, as well as the implementation of the decisions of the 2024 Focac Summit, which was held in Beijing last year,” reads part of the statement.
Mr Chen hailed the close co-operation between China and Africa.
“Continued co-operation between China and Africa is pushing development between and among our countries, and with Focac celebrating 25 years of existence this year, it is very important that ministers and countries come together and discuss ways of shaping the development path of our people,” Mr Chen said.
President Mnangagwa was among several African Heads of State and Government, who attended the 2024 Focac meeting in Beijing.
During last year’s Focac meeting, Zimbabwe and China signed several agreements on strengthening economic ties.
The 4th China-Africa Economic and Trade Expo is also running concurrently with the Focac Inter-Ministerial meeting.
