A 16-member Zimbabwean delegation comprising officials from the National Arts Council of Zimbabwe (NACZ) and representatives from the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture left for China on June 9, to participate in a seminar on Culture and Tourism Development.

The seminar is expected to equip participants with knowledge and practical skills aimed at strengthening the cultural and tourism sectors, which continue to play a crucial role in economic growth and the preservation of national heritage.

Speaking before the team’s departure yesterday, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture, Mr Nicholas Moyo, challenged the delegates to be exemplary ambassadors of Zimbabwe and to take advantage of the learning opportunity.

He urged them to uphold the country’s image while abroad and ensure that the knowledge gained from the seminar translates into tangible benefits for communities and cultural institutions back home.

“Go and represent Zimbabwe well. Ensure that your learning here will be critical in advancing cultural tourism across your respective areas,” said Moyo.
The Permanent Secretary noted that cultural tourism remains one of the key pillars in promoting Zimbabwe’s rich heritage, traditions and creative industries, adding that capacity-building initiatives such as the seminar are vital in unlocking opportunities within the sector.

“Your participation in the seminar is expected to foster international cooperation, knowledge exchange and the adoption of best practices that can help position Zimbabwe as a competitive cultural tourism destination,” said Moyo.
The team is anticipated to return with insights that will assist in strengthening cultural programmes, enhancing tourism experiences and creating opportunities for artists, cultural practitioners and local communities across the country.
