Zimbabwe Derby washed away

The Zimbabwe Derby ended prematurely at Borrowdale yesterday after only two races out of the seven carded were held. Five of the races, including the feature Zimbabwe Derby over 2 400m, were called off because of the dangerous conditions of the race track.

Eight horses had accepted to go to the starting stalls for the Zimbabwe Derby, which forms the third leg of the Triple Crown although none of the equine athletes were in contention for the gong.

Trainer Bridget Stipdolph had started the day well when she saddled Super Good and Donavan Mansour to win the Soccer GG Maiden Juvenile Plate 1 100m by four lengths.

The combination beat Jammy Lizard into second place.

Swinging On A Star finished third Kevin Derere had ridden Amas Amat to win the Mega Pick Six Merit Handicap which came as race two.

Amas Amat by Cornie Spies finished three lengths ahead of Jean’s Dancer which enjoyed the services of Tapiwa Manxusa before the following races were called off. — sportszone.
