THE country has been experiencing high temperatures for the past few days, with some areas recording as high as 44 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, the Meteorological Services Department (MSD) has revealed.
According to a weather report and forecast issued on Tuesday, dry and hot air had contributed to above-normal temperatures in several areas.
“The presence of dry and hot air over much of the country led to higher-than-normal temperatures in the afternoon.
“Some of the higher temperatures were experienced in Beitbridge 44 degrees Celsius, Gwanda 41, Binga 41, Kariba 41, Buffalo Range 41 degrees Celsius, Chisumbanje 40 degrees Celsius and Zaka 40 degrees Celsius. In addition to that, an influx of moisture over Bulawayo Metropolitan and Matabeleland South province led to isolated thundershowers overnight,” the MSD said.
The MSD urged members of the public to stay hydrated, limit exposure to direct sunlight and avoid starting outdoor fires.
“Limit exposure to direct sunlight by wearing a sunhat and being under an umbrella or in the shade,” said the department.
Meanwhile, for Wednesday (today), Harare Metropolitan Province, northern parts of Manicaland and all Mashonaland provinces are expected to experience partly cloudy and hot conditions, with a chance of isolated showers in the north-eastern districts.
The rest of the country, including Bulawayo, Matabeleland North, Matabeleland South, southern Manicaland, Midlands and Masvingo provinces, is forecast to experience mostly sunny and hot weather.
The MSD said conditions would be mild during the morning and evening in most areas.
