Zimbabwe’s Ambassador to key European nations has declared that the Fruit Logistica trade fair, opening tomorrow in Berlin, presents a critical opportunity for the country to diversify and significantly expand its export markets.

Ambassador Alice Mashingaidze, who represents Zimbabwe in Germany, Bulgaria, Hungary, Slovenia, Switzerland, Poland and Ukraine, made the statement following a courtesy call from the national trade development and promotion body, ZimTrade, officials.

ZimTrade is leading the Zimbabwean delegation at the massive horticultural expo.

Ambassador Mashingaidze underscored the milestone of Zimbabwe’s 5th consecutive exhibition at the event, linking it directly to national economic progress. “It is really quite significant, with regard to our economic trajectory as a country,” she said.

Noting “great growth” of trade with the European union market, she emphasised the broader potential of the fair.

“There is an opportunity to have strategic business partners and also to gather market intelligence for Zimbabwean products to have access to the European market, not just Germany, but other European countries,” she said.

With 151 countries exhibiting, Ambassador Mashingaidze said the event offered a platform to “grow the exports from Zimbabwe to markets in the world.”

She also expressed hope that participation would attract foreign direct investment into Zimbabwe’s agricultural processing and broader industrial sectors.

The statements signal a concerted push by the Second Republic to leverage one of the world’s premier fresh produce trade shows to deepen its commercial ties with Europe and beyond, aiming to translate exhibition presence into sustained export growth and investment.
