THE Zimbabwe Independent Complaints Commission (ZICC) has resolved 40 out of 53 complaints received involving alleged misconduct by members of the country’s security services since the beginning of the year.

The complaints relate to the conduct of members of the Zimbabwe Defence Forces, Zimbabwe Republic Police, Zimbabwe Prisons and Correctional Service and intelligence services.

Speaking on the sidelines of the ZICC strategic planning workshop which ended in Nyanga yesterday, chairperson of the Commission, Justice Webster Chinamora, said the Commission resolved about 78 percent of the complaints received, while the remaining 13 cases were at different stages of investigation.

Justice Chinamora said the Commission is working to improve public awareness and accessibility so that people whose rights may have been violated could report their grievances.

He said the Commission is planning to establish provincial offices in line with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2) and Vision 2030, although the initiative is awaiting funding from Treasury.
