Zimbabwe International Book Fair ends on high note

This year’s event saw the lustre that used to characterise the event being retained, as witnessed by the number of foreign authors and buyers who attended the event. The fair reflected the desire by the nation to maintain its literacy rate as academics and school children contributed to the huge crowds that thronged various stands where books and other items were on exhibition.
Publishers like ZPH Publishers, College Press, Mambo Press, Longman and Lleemon Publishers used the same platform to unveil new academic books.
Renowned author Virginia Phiri who wrote the novels “Destiny” and “Desperate” described the fair as “brighter, successful and unique”.
“It looks brighter than last year. The Indaba was overwhelmed with foreign visitors,” she said.
“I hope the people who came here were doing real trade, especially in the areas of buying rights for books and for translations.
“The exhibitors are now more confident and organised and this is a step in the right direction.
“Our book fair is unique than in other countries.”
The chairperson of the executive board of the Zimbabwe International Book Fair Association, Mr Musayemura Zimunya said he was happy with the event.
The fair was held under the theme “African Literature in the Global & Digital Era”.
