Zigmbabwe has joined the global community in launching the 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence (GBV) campaign, which kicked off on November 25 and runs until December 10.
This international campaign aims to prevent violence against women and girls, highlighting and eliminating systemic abuse worldwide.
This year’s theme, “Time to Act Now,” emphasizes the need for urgent action to strengthen multi-sectoral responses, increase investments in GBV prevention, and ensure accessible support services, including healthcare, legal assistance, and counseling
Despite progress made, Zimbabwe still faces significant challenges in addressing GBV, including limited accountability mechanisms, inadequate funding, and low public awareness.
However, the country has made efforts to address GBV, including the establishment of One Stop Centres, which provide support services to survivors of GBV.
The 16 Days of Activism campaign is an opportunity for the country to continue its efforts to eliminate GBV and promote the well-being and empowerment of women and communities. The campaign is supported by various partners, including the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) and the Canadian Embassy in Zimbabwe.
