The Government has threatened to cancel registration of all vehicles not licensed or exempted within a period not exceeding two years.
In September this year, police warned drivers and owners of unregistered vehicles that such cars will be impounded if they are found on the country’s roads as some of them are being used as getaway cars by armed robbers, while others are being used as pirate taxis, with the drivers wantonly violating road rules and regulations.
In a general notice 2028 of 2024 published in the Government Gazette this week, Government warned all vehicle owners whose cars are not registered to approach relevant authorities to have them regularised.
“It is hereby notified, in terms of Section 12 (c) of the Vehicle Registration and Licensing Act (Chapter 13:4), that the Registrar of Vehicles intends to cancel the registration of vehicles not licensed and exempted for a period not exceeding two years.
“Affected parties are hereby notified to approach the Central Vehicle Registry to regularise their vehicles or the Zimbabwe National Roads Administration to pay outstanding arrears on the licensing of their vehicles within thirty days from the date of publication of this notice,” said the notice.
Affected parties were also implored to approach the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Central Vehicle Registry or all ZINARA offices throughout the country for inspection of the registration particulars of their vehicles at no cost.
