A 42-year-old man hailing from Chamunorwa Village, Mashonaland East, has been apprehended for the theft of two cows from distinct owners in Magunje, Karoi, under the cover of darkness.
In an official statement on X, the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ) disclosed that Mushonga Haurovi (42) from Chamunorwa Village 2, Zvipani Magunje, Karoi, was presented before the Karoi Magistrates’ Court on charges of dual stock theft. On the 5th of May 2024, the accused purloined a cow owned by Ermest Kudakwashe Kakotora and another belonging to Cairo Chiremo, discreetly driving them away unnoticed. The crime unraveled when a vigilant male witness (40) intercepted Mushonga, demanding to peruse his papers authorizing nocturnal cattle movement. Despite attempting to flee, the accused was swiftly apprehended with the aid of local residents, leading to his subsequent arrest following a police report.
The two stolen cows, valued at US$900, were successfully retrieved. Mushonga was handed a nine-year sentence for each stock theft charge, with the terms set to run concurrently, culminating in a combined nine-year incarceration, as confirmed by the NPAZ.
