Zimbabwe’s national golf team has departed for Gaborone, Botswana, to participate in the 2025 Region 5 (SADC) Golf Championship, which tees off today at the prestigious Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club.

The tournament, running until 17 May, is being held under the theme “Harmony between Sport and Nature.”

The four-man team representing Zimbabwe features some of the country’s most promising young golfers: Keegan Shutt, Kevin Muchenje, Tanaka Chatora, and Michael Wallace. The squad is led by Head of Delegation Blessmore Gandawa, a seasoned official in Zimbabwean golf circles.

Speaking after the team’s departure, Zimbabwe’s Deputy Minister of Tourism, Hon. Tongai Mnangagwa, extended his well wishes to the athletes, highlighting the importance of regional events in promoting both sport and tourism.

“We are proud of our golfers for flying the Zimbabwean flag high. Competitions like these not only showcase our sporting talent but also build vital bridges through sport and regional collaboration. We wish the team every success and encourage them to be ambassadors of the country’s values and hospitality,” said Hon. Mnangagwa.

The Region 5 Golf Championship brings together elite amateur golfers from Southern Africa, offering a platform for the next generation of golfing stars.

The Stanbic Bank Gaborone Golf Club, a course known for its blend of challenging fairways and natural scenery, is expected to test the mettle of all teams competing under this year’s environmental theme.

Zimbabwe will be aiming to improve on its recent performances and cement its place among the region’s golfing powerhouses.
