THE Zimbabwe Olympic Committee have announced various commissions to undertake special functions for a specified period in line with their strategic focus and of the International Olympic Committee.
This comes after the National Olympic Committee’s elections last month that saw a new executive board coming in led by president Thabani Gonye.
The appointments are made by the ZOC president after consultation with the executive board in accordance with Article 25:1 of the ZOC constitution.
The Audit and Finance Commission will be chaired by Godfrey Sunguro, who is the ZOC treasurer while the Legal, Membership and Standards Compliance Commission will be chaired by Ringisayi Mapondera.
The other commissions have been divided into clusters with each vice president assigned a cluster to mentor and is also responsible for performance monitoring and evaluation.
The first vice-president Fredreck Ndlovu will head the Sport, Technical, Development, Clean Athletes and Learning cluster made up of five commissions:
- The Athletes Commission chaired by Cuthbert Nyasango
- The Technical and Development Commission chaired by Rick Fulton (co-option)
- The Sport Education, Leadership Growth Commission chaired by Tendai Tagara
- The Systems, Digitalisation, Technology and Research Commission chaired by Chipo Zumburani
- And the Medical, Sports Science, Protection of Clean Athletes Commission that will in the interim be chaired by the ZOC chief executive Stephen Mudawarima but there will be co-option for the substantive chairperson.
Second vice president Letitia Chipandu will head the Commercial + Corporate, People and Equity and OVEP cluster made up of the following commissions;
- Media, Communication, Public Relations and Diplomacy Commission chaired by Charmaine Chamboko
- Gender, Equity and Diversity Commission chaired by Merit Munzwembiri
- The Olympic Values Promotion (Olympism), Olympians, Peace, Environment, and Safe Sports Commission to be chaired by Abel Chimukoko
- Sport for All and Volunteers Commission chaired by Stonard Mapfumo.
- The Human Resources (Human Capital) Commission will in the interim be chaired by Sunguro until co-option of a substantive chairperson.
- The Marketing and Resource Mobilisation commission to be filled in by co-option. In the interim the chief executive is directly responsible for this commission until co-option of a substantive chairperson.
These are transitional structures towards the 2021 to 2025 strategic plan development later this year.
