AS they prepared to troop back to their bases for the 2018 action, Zimbabwe soccer boys plying their trade in Swaziland boldly declared success as top of their targets.
They had anticipated the 2018 action to resume this Friday but it has since made way for the Incwala Holiday giving them time to shake the holidays lag and focus.
Leading the pack was Mbabane Citizens duo of coach Hebert Maruwa and utility player Tawana Chikore whose side is odds on favourite to win the MTN National First Division title and ultimately promotion to the MTN Premier League of Swaziland.
They also find themselves in the quarter finals of the SMVAF Ingwenyama Cup.
Maruwa said he was aiming to finish off the league job and do better in the cup.
a?We are targeting to win all the next five league games at least which will put us at a better position in the league race. We are also eyeing the Ingwenyama Cup glory. This calls for total focus starting now,a? said Maruwa.
Chikore, the only Zimbabwean player to have won a player of the month accolade in recent years said he was aiming for more personal and team accolades.
a?I have to continue shining and win more accolades as an individual and as a team. We are better poised in the league and we should wrap it up in the next few matches. We also have to shine in the remaining cup games,a? said Chikore.
Matsapha United coach Saul Chaminuka said his team was going to bolster the squad in their bid to bounce back stronger.
a?We had a very lean squad in 2017 and injuries almost depleted us in the latter stage so we are aiming to bolster the squad. We hope to bounce back stronger in the campaign.
a?There is a need for two strikers and a back-up goalkeeper at least of which if we get those we could get our campaign back on track,a? said Chaminuka.
Elsewhere, unsettled former Mbabane Swallows defender Talent Maphosa who spent the festive season with his fiancAe and son in law Lavumisa said he was going to reconsider his future at Red Lions.
a?It was not all rosy at Red Lions as we had a fair share of problems so obviously one has to look for a team during the window period,a? said Maphosa.
The other Zimbabweans in Swaziland include coaches Tarisai Changara and Zenzile Dolly Mpofu and player Tawanda Chikuku whose phones were not available. -@NoelMunzabwa
