ZIMBABWE will play defending champions, South Africa, Namibia and Sri Lanka in Group B of the 2018 World University Netball Championships to be held at Makerere University in Kampala from September 17-21.

The event, which is staged biennially by the International University Sports Federation (Fisu), will see hosts Uganda taking on the United States of America, Singapore and Kenya in Group A.

Judging from the latest International Netball Federation (INF) World Rankings, Zimbabwe have been handed a fair draw as they are ranked second best in the group after South Africa.

South Africa are ranked fourth in the INF World Rankings, while Zimbabwe are 13th, with Sri Lanka and Namibia being 26th and 28th respectively.

Zimbabwe Netball Association president Leticia Chipandu said she is happy with how the game has grown in the country at tertiary level.

Fisu gives Zimbabwe an opportunity to gauge their performances ahead of preparations for the 2019 Netball World Cup to be held in Liverpool, England.

Zimbabwe, together with Uganda, claimed the two remaining World Cup slots for Africa at the just-ended African Championships that doubled up as a World Cup qualifier in Lusaka, Zambia.

They join South Africa and Malawi, who automatically qualified for the global netball event by virtue of their International Netball
Federation world rankings.
