Zimbabwe, South Africa in joint tourism marketing campaign

ZIMBABWE and South Africa are joining forces to enhance tourism flow in the region, resulting in an increase in visitor numbers and boosting revenue for the sector.

The exciting collaboration, called Wonder2wonder, is a joint marketing initiative between “We are Victoria Falls” and Cape Town tourism.

The partnership aims to promote the breath taking Victoria Falls and the iconic Table Mountain as must-visit destinations.

Earlier this year, the two destination management organisations signed a cooperation agreement, paving the way for future collaboration between African destinations.

According to Zimbabwe Tourism Authority chief executive officer, Ms Winnie Muchanyuka, the innovative initiative has already facilitated seamless travel between these two prime locations, giving tourists the opportunity to experience the best of both worlds.

“The connectivity that has come about through the services from the two cities allows for visitors to this part of the world to visit both the iconic places in the same itinerary. So we are looking at working with Cape Town tourism and the destination marketing partnership that we have so that we encourage whoever comes to Cape Town to also come to Victoria Falls and whoever comes to Victoria Falls also visits Cape Town.

“By so doing we are enhancing the number of days in which visitors will stay in this part of the world and be able to share the revenues and arrivals that we get,” said Ms Muchanyuka.

We are Victoria Falls leader, Ms Shelly Cox said the focus of the campaigns was to elevate the promotion of the two natural wonders.

“The Wonder2wonder partnership is formed from the back of our partnership with Cape Town tourism. The focus of the campaign is to elevate awareness of the natural wonder in Victoria Falls as well as the natural wonder of Cape Town’s Table mountain and to promote the seamless journey of encompassing and combining these two destinations to one magical journey,” said Ms Cox.

Local airline, Fastjet spokesperson Mr Nunurai Ndawana said as an airline they welcome the development and are available to proffer options of travel.

“This is a lovely initiative by Cape Town and Victoria Falls. As Fastjet we are delighted to offer a choice of connectivity through our wide network of flights. We are servicing flights from Johannesburg into Victoria Falls, at present we have up to three flights per day, for tourists in Victoria Falls we also now have the option to shuttle them across the country using our wide network of domestic flights.

“They can fly to Kariba, Hwange and Harare. From Victoria falls they can even fly to Kruger National Park and these are some of the options that we are offering to them in our continued support to enhance tourism,” said Mr Ndawana.
