GOVERNMENT has approved a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Republic of Tajikistan focused on geological studies.
Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Dr Zhemu Soda announced the approval after this week’s Cabinet meeting, which is aimed at bolstering scientific and industrial cooperation.
The Tajik National University is on record that Tajikistan holds substantial, though largely untapped, geological potential with over 600 documented mineral deposits, including rare earths, silver, gold and lithium.
The agreement between Zimbabwe and Tajikistan marks a new chapter in the two countries’ collaborative efforts to enhance their geological capabilities.
Minister Soda said the MoU aims to foster a collaborative environment conducive to scientific advancement, facilitating the exchange of knowledge and technological innovations in geological research.
“Cabinet considered and approved the Memorandum of Understanding between the Republic of Zimbabwe and the Republic of Tajikistan on cooperation in the field of geological studies,” said Minister Soda.
“The Memorandum of Understanding seeks to expand and deepen the scientific and industrial ties between the Parties by creating a favourable environment for cooperation and development of scientific and technical cooperation in geological studies.”
Minister Soda said the two countries will cooperate through the exchange of ideas, information, experiences, technologies, exchange of scientists and specialists.
Cooperation will also be done in conducting joint workshops, scientific conferences and meetings, preparations and capacity building of specialists.
“Provision of joint research projects. Conducting geological prospecting works, and the use of modern technologies for the development of geological maps and other mutually agreed forms of scientific and technological cooperation,” said Minister Soda.
