ZIMBABWE and Tajikistan are set to strengthen cooperation in geological research and mineral development following Cabinet’s approval of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the two countries.

The agreement seeks to broaden scientific and industrial collaboration by fostering a conducive environment for technical cooperation in geological studies.

“The Memorandum of Understanding seeks to expand and deepen the scientific and industrial ties between the Parties by creating a favourable environment for cooperation and development of scientific and technical cooperation in geological studies,” today’s post-Cabinet briefing stated.

Under the MoU, the two countries will collaborate through the exchange of ideas, information, experiences and technologies.

Areas of cooperation will include conducting joint workshops, scientific conferences and capacity building for specialists.

The partnership further covers joint geological prospecting works and the application of modern technologies in the development of geological maps.

The move is expected to enhance Zimbabwe’s geological research capacity, promote skills transfer and unlock greater value from the country’s mineral resources through international collaboration.
