A 27-member team of Zimbabwean darts players who took part in the 2013 Zone VI Youth Championships last week brought home a host of medals. Led by captain Myron Jaynes, the team won three gold and a bronze medal at the event in Blantyre.
Speaking after their arrival, National Darts Association president, Maynard Moyo, said they were taking part in numerous tournaments to try and build a competitive team.
Mutare Boys High’s Jaynes won gold in the Under-15 boys’ doubles and a bronze in the Under-15 singles events.
In the doubles, Jaynes was partnered by Rugare Mapanzure of Biriri High.
Moreblessing Luphahla won gold medal in the Under-15 girls’ category.
Rosemary Pasipamire won the top score while Enia Mbanje and Nosipho Lamb won badgers in the most 140 and most 100 respectively.
“We had a good experience competing against top junior players and the good thing is that the young players have a bright future.
“We will continue to support them to become the future players to represent the national team at the highest level. The players are coming from our development programme so we are happy with their achievement,” Moyo said.
The national head in charge of darts, Busiso Chakawa, said the tournament in Malawi was good exposure.
South Africa were the overall winners of the tournament.
