ZIMBABWE will on Saturday host a joint African Anti-Corruption Day commemoration with Botswana and Zambia at Chamabondo Primary School in Victoria Falls as the three countries strengthen regional efforts to combat corruption and promote integrity.

The commemorations will be held under the theme, “Scaling Up the Promotion of Integrity and Anti-Corruption Action Across Africa.

The event will bring together the Zimbabwe Anti-Corruption Commission (ZACC), Botswana’s Directorate on Corruption and Economic Crime (DCEC) and Zambia’s Anti-Corruption Commission to mark the adoption of the African Union Convention on Preventing and Combating Corruption (AUCPCC).

The AUCPCC is a key continental instrument aimed at preventing, detecting, punishing and eradicating corruption and related offences in Africa while promoting transparency, accountability and good governance.

In a statement, ZACC said the joint commemoration reflects the growing commitment by African countries to work together in addressing corruption, which continues to undermine socio-economic development and public trust in institutions.

“The event will provide a platform for stakeholders to exchange experiences, strengthen partnerships and reinforce the importance of integrity in both the public and private sectors,” said ZACC.

The commission said this year’s theme calls on Governments, institutions, the private sector and citizens to intensify efforts to promote transparency, accountability and ethical conduct across the continent.

Members of the public, civic organisations, Government departments, development partners and other stakeholders have been urged to attend the commemorations and support ongoing efforts to build a corruption-free Africa.

The annual observance of African Anti-Corruption Day serves as a reminder of the need for sustained action against corruption and the promotion of ethical leadership across the continent.
