THE Government is amending the Refugees Act so that refugees are involved in national development plans, Public Service, Labour and Social Welfare Minister, Honourable Edgar Moyo has said.

Speaking at Tongogara Refugee in Chipinge today to mark the World Refugee Day, Minister Moyo said despite financial constraints, Zimbabwe is committed to continue taking good care of displaced foreign nationals by protecting their fundamental human rights.

“My ministry is actively working to realign the Refugees Act and advocate for the inclusion of refugees in district, provincial and national development plans. Despite global financial constraints, the Government continues to ensure that refugees have access to basic necessities such as food, shelter, healthcare and education. These are, not luxuries, but essential foundations for restoring hope, dignity and self- reliance. Our efforts reflect the resilience of our nation and the solidarity of our people.

“As we reflect on global challenges, we also celebrate the courage, resilience and contributions of refugees. Refugees are, not merely beneficiaries of assistance, but active contributors to economic growth, cultural diversity and community development. Their stories remind us that adversity can be transformed into opportunity when met with compassion and support,” said Minister Moyo.

Minister of State for Manicaland Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Advocate Misheck Mugadza, who was represented by the Director provincial coordination, Mr Joseph Mashingaidze, said there is cohesion between refugess and the host Chipinge community which must be maintained.
